Actor and director Jesse Eisenberg said he doesn’t want to be associated with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, whom he played in the 2010 film The Social Network, calling the billionaire’s actions “problematic.” Jesse Eisenberg hasn’t followed (Zuckerberg’s) life trajectory, in part because he doesn’t want to be associated with someone like that, reported by CNN.
Zuckerberg rejects fact-checking
Zuckerberg is doing things that are problematic by stripping the social network of fact-checking, Jesse Eisenberg believes. It’s making the world even more dangerous for people who are already in danger. Eisenberg, whose screenplay for “True Pain” was nominated for an Oscar this year, was referring to Zuckerberg’s decision to adjust Meta’s content review policies on Facebook and Instagram, replacing fact-checking with user-generated “community notes.”
Zuckerberg announced the changes just before U.S. President Donald Trump entered the Oval Office for his second term. Trump and other Republicans have criticized Zuckerberg and Meta for what they see as censorship of right-wing voices.

Zuckerberg’s portrayal in The Social Network
Eisenberg stressed that he was concerned simply as a person “who reads the newspaper” and is married to someone who supports disability justice, not as an actor who once played Zuckerberg in a film. Eisenberg asks: These people have billions and billions of dollars — more money than any human being, and what are they doing with it? His portrayal of Zuckerberg in the film The Social Network, which chronicles the founding of Facebook, brought Eisenberg worldwide fame.
Now, the actor is revisiting his memories of the role during a press tour to promote the film True Pain, which he wrote and directed. Last month, he told the Awards Chatter podcast that he had never met Zuckerberg before playing him. Eisenberg recalled that he was on his way to a meeting with the CEO of Meta when he got a call from one of the film’s producers telling him not to go for various legal reasons.
